Grant Judson was born at Well 35, Canning Stock Route. Until 1964, Grant lived a traditional lifestyle in the desert with his family group and seasonally moved south-east to the Tanami Desert as nomadic groups did. While his family had occasionally seen white drovers on the Canning Stock Route and had heard stories of white people settling to the north at Hall’s Creek and Fitzroy Crossing, they resisted what was a general exodus into ‘black camps’ on the edge of new settlements. After years of severe drought his family decided that they must move to Fitzroy Crossing and he has lived in Fitzroy River Valley ever since, in the Wangkajunga Community. Grant begun painting in 2009 and is developing a distinct style not dissimilar to some artists of the central western desert. |
