Lloyd Kwilla is a very exciting emerging artist from the Wangkajunga Community of North Western Australia. Lloyd is a son of renowned artist Billy Thomas, together they spent much of Lloyd’s earlier years walking the desert and gaining knowledge about traditional desert lifestyle. Lloyd began painting more than six years ago, for the last two years he has been a full time artist, leaving behind his mining background. His style is similar to that of his father but the boldness and grandeur of Lloyd’s work is very distinctive. His paintings of sandhills and rockholes of the vast tracts of his traditional area, the Great Sandy Desert, have a dynamic rhythmic quality rarely seen in the medium of ochre.
